Trending 2011
First in the list, Madam Anna Manalastas and her top-rated Kapamilya show One Hundred Days to Heaven.
A kid who knows almost everything about the corporate world? Unbelievable, isn’t it? But Anna isn’t just your ordinary kid; she’s business tycoon and owner of the largest toy company in the country Anna Manalastas just turned into a kid after being given a special chance of correcting all her mistakes before going into heaven after her tragic death. With Xyriel Manabat’s witty performance of an adult-kid and a story of redemption and faith to God, it is not surprising that this child wonder had grabbed most of the viewer’s hearts and relate to the program’s story.
Tagged as the most ambitious project of one of the largest networks in the country, GMA 7, and next on our list is the multi-awarded epicserye, Amaya. It is the first ever in the Philippine’s history to grace the country’s culture and tradition and give story to the impeccable civilization of the Filipinos even before the colonials came. Amaya’s story revolves around a tribe princess who was born with a twin snake, and is destined to do great things to save not only her tribe but also the whole civilization from the likes of Raja Mangubat and Hara Lamitan.
2011 had been also a year of a lot of classic soap opera, telefantasya and koreanovela remakes just like Mula sa Puso, Captain Barbell, Green Rose and the likes. But of all of those shows only one reigned supreme. Third on our list, is the break-out success of Mara Clara.
From Korea with love all the way to our home country is probably the most heartfelt romantic comedy series ever shown in Philippine TV, Secret Garden and My Girlfriend is a Gumiho takes on our fourth spot.
From signature clothes to its ever catchy ringtone that says “You have a message, you have a message” in Korean, Secret Garden’s Jamie and Owen Kim had indeed become household names. With the story of an heir falling in love to a stuntwoman, with a little twist of changing their bodies when it rains, this koreanovela, sure brought down all of its competitors in the Philippine’s primetime block.
While My Girlfriend is a Gumiho, taking on the daytime block, captured the hearts of the Filipinos with its lovely story of a Nine-tailed fox (Gumiho) romance with a wanna be action star and how they will face fate and the people around them to be together in the end.
Tween’s rule this year as both of the largest network’s brightest tween stars officially brought blockbustes in the big screen with their debut movies Tween Academy 2012 of GMA Films and Star Cinema’s Way Back Home landing fifth spot on our list. New stars of our generation has been tagged to the likes of Kathryn Bernardo, Julia Montez, Barbie Forteza, Bea Binene, Louise Delos Reyes, Alden Richards, Lexi Fernandez, Jhake Vargas, Derrick Monasterio, Joshua Dionisuio, Kristoffer Martin, Joyce Ching and Elmo Magalona.
Breaking Blockbuster Records with PHP 331,631,28 is Vice Ganda’s Unkabogable Praybeyt Benjamin ranking sixth. Break-out star from variety show, Showtime, Vice had brought 3 blockbuster movies in just a span of a year and a half.
Seventh on the list is longest running variety show for the span of about 30 years and still making noise and lots of fans is Eat Bulaga. Probably one of the best shows that never run out of new ideas to make people entertain every afternoon, it still rules the daytime block with almost half of the viewership ratings leaving its competitors not even half of what it rates.
New but not to be belittled is 7th on the list, TV 5’s primetime drama blocks had not failed to amaze its new viewers with its great caliber of veteran actors and newbie starring on heavy dramas directed by big time directors. Will it be able to break ABS CBN and GMA’s biggest spot on the viewership ratings?
“Di kita kaya sa suntukan, kasi sa tingin mo pa lang, Knock-out na ako!” cheesy isn't it? But these types of lines are what fills up almost every sms send in your phones and status in your facebook and other social networking sites in the country and this is none other than the fault of the infamous Boy Pick-Up from the hit GMA Network sitcom Bubble Gang landing on the 9th spot.
Last but not the least is the controversial match of Pacquiao and Marquez, making Pacquiao out of the first spot in some boxing pound for pound listing. Although this must have serve some great controversies in his career, the Pambansang Kamao, still thanks his kababayan for supporting him all the way.
