January is known as the Sto. Niño Festival Month as this is the time where various places in Luzon, Visayas and Mindano pay homage for the Holy Child Jesus. Many lavish and colorful festivals were celebrated in honor of Sto. Niño. These festivities were prepared months ahead in anticipation for coming local and foreign tourists who will not just enjoy the mood of the event, but also experience and witness the faith of Filipinos to Holy Child Jesus.
The celebrations usually feature masses, exhibitions of Sto. Niño statues as a shepherd boy, as the keeper of the world, or as a sleeping child, dance competitions, which can be either tribal or modern, with participants in colorful costumes, photo exhibits, showcase of products, beauty pageants and fireworks.
